ABOUT US

Anathoth Farm was bought in 1997 by an American woman, Pat Stephenson, who donated the farm to the Anathoth Trust with the sole purpose of being used to offer Retreats.  Pat Stephenson initially managed the retreat farm, but returned to the USA in 2010. In June 2016, the Trust appointed Stephan Britz to manage the retreat farm, whereafter Stephan and his wife Marié and their two children moved to Anathoth farm in December 2016.

Our dream…

At Stillebosch Retreat Farm it is our mission to create and manage a facility where people can rediscover, through silence, solitude and simplicity and in nature, this deep spiritual hunger for God. The aim is to renew and restore the relationship with God, yourself, people and the world around you.

Our goal is to build a christian community living and working in a life of celebration and simplicity within the riches of silence and contemplative prayer in nature. We aim to provide a safe space for visitors to co-experience the uniqueness of silence and contemplative prayer as part of their journey with God.

Our vision is to provide a unique experience through nature and guided solitude retreats to experience God’s presence and to create a space where individuals can stay for 2 to 30 days (30 Ignatian retreats) and become part of the daily routine and life of the farm.

Stillebosch Retreat Farm is situated on the Bottelary Hills in the Stellenbosch Winelands district. We are surrounded by the prize-winning vineyards of Kaapzicht and Groenland, with beautiful views over the rolling Bottelary Hills and Boland mountains on the one side and Table Mountain and Cape Town’s lights at night on the other.

A mere 40 minute drive from Cape Town International Airport via the N2 and a short 10 minute drive from the N1 probably makes us one of the most centrally located retreat Farms in the Western Cape. This means that you can live in  Stellenbosch, Somerset-West, Muizenberg, Constantia, Table View, Paarl or even Malmesbury and be here within an hour’s drive.
