Activities
Stillebosch Retreat is a self-sustainable, working farm, providing an opportunity for visitors to take part in the daily farming activities which includes:
- Orchard Caring: Olives; Nursery (Cattleya Orchids, Tree ferns, Clivia’s etc);
- Organic Vegetable Gardening: Creating a means for a partially self-sustainable income for the centre
- Gardening
- Silent, Solitary Walks between the Olive Trees on the farm and between the vineyards of our neighbouring farms
We strive to be ecologically responsible in all our activities on the farm and at the retreat centre. This includes:
- as few as possible chemical interventions in our orchards (spraying of insecticides, fertilizers, etc.);
- avoid chemical additives to soil as far as possible by using organic compost which will be produced on the farm from own waste and raw materials from farms in a close proximity;
- produce, as much as possible, our own food such as vegetables for home and catering use for retreats and conferences;
- responsible use of water from our boreholes and water scheme – using drip irrigation on our orchards instead of sprayers, recycling of ‘grey water’ for garden use and dam feature;
- waste disposal: recycling all possible recyclable materials and disposing of non-recyclable waste in a furnace.
